What activities we provide
Relaxation exercises – Activities that help the individual to relax or calm down. This can include a stroll, a walk in the park, a visit to the beach or a sit in the sun.
Music therapy – Playing songs that the individual used to listen to and enjoy is a great way to help the individuals stabilise their emotions. Playing the individual’s favourite songs can help enhance their mental performance and recall memories.
Games – We encourage clients to engage in games such as puzzles, word games, board games and quizzes, these games encourage cognitive thinking and keep the individual engaged for periods of time.
Social interaction – Social interaction on a consistent basis helps the individual think about various topics, reminisce on the past and express their opinions. Regular social interaction helps lower agitation rates and improve the quality of life for those suffering with dementia.
Scrapbooking – Scrapbooking reminds the individual of the people in their lives and the things that they love, it reminds them of happy memories and improves creativity. This will remind them of the people and the things they love. This will also improve their creativity.
Reading – Reading is a great brain exercise and helps to improve memory and thinking ability and encourages them to use their brains.
Crafts – We offer a range of crafts for individuals with dementia. Engaging in arts and crafts improves cognitive function and promotes coordination. The arts and crafts activities we offer include: gardening, flower arranging, colouring, painting, drawing, card making, knitting, pottery, hat making, table decorating and more.
Memory care activities – Engaging individuals with dementia in memory care activities can help promote their independence and lower their stress levels. By setting a time table of memory care activities, a routine can be established for the client. These can include physical activities or just memory care depending on the physical abilities of the individual. Activities include folding laundry, making the bed and watering the plants.
Respite Care – Respite care is a huge benefit of our day centres, allowing caregivers to spend some time away from their loved one without worrying about their safety. Caregivers are able to focus on the forgotten about tasks such as shopping, gardening, working or visiting other family members and loved ones.
